Hi.
I have had a problem during firmware update. I've got 4 ST3750330AS Seagate drives on a MacPro. I downloaded and burned the new firmware and the first time I tried to upgrade it, it was succesfull for 3 of the 4 drives, but one of them failed. Now I can't even reformat it because it says "I-O error" when trying. I had try to upgrade this single drive to new firmware but when I start the CD I burned it appears an error: INITDISKDRIVE IS TOO LARGE TO HANDLE USING ONLY 1ST 8 GB DRIVE 82 HEADS 51 SECTORS 200. I have tried different drives combinations, but it keeps saying all the time the same. What this can be related to? It's strange that it first worked and now it doesn't without any change.
Regards

Seagate thank you for attempting to fix the issue. I however am still having no luck and after speaking with your tech support. I offer you my last voiced opinion.
Seagate, thank you for your loyal years, I appreciate for the last couple years, recieving quality drives. This however will mark the end of my commitment to you. I wish you luck winning back your past customers.

OK so I have read the entire thread and I am satisfied that I can apply the firmware from Wednesday night onto my drive and it probably not brick it. But here's a question that I have not seen answered...... Does this firmware fix the issue where the SMART log fills up to 320 entries and then the drive bricks if the computer is powered off without the log rotating the first entry?
I can't find the link but the Seagate employee that posted publically on Monday on ___ said that the original bug was that if the computer was powered off with the 320th entry in the SMART log, the next power on would brick the drive. So does the SD1A firmware from Wednesday night fix THAT or is it just a fix for the first bad iso image?

I am just waiting to the answer of this situation to flash my 1TB drives.

Seems like the firmware has worked on my ending -501 1TB 7200.11, however, I wonder if people checked, I think the firmware basically just kills you cache, because after the firmware update under HDtune and SisSandra, they all say there is 0MB cache. When my other non-defective seagate drives are reporting the correct cache size.
Can someone check on this?

Surprise ... another problem?
Here’s my problem with the whole debacle. I have 18 Seagate drives, 8 of which are 7200.11’s. 5*1TB, 1*750GB and 2*500GB but, until 5 days ago, I had 9*7200.11 drives. The one drive that died was a 3 month old 1TB with LC11 firmware which Seagate claims is not affected, I beg to differ.
I’ve watched for a week while Seagate has altered the http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/
Also, to those who suggest backing up data before a firmware update ... I should buy 7*1TB drives for a $1000 to backup the data I have because Seagate made a mistake?
Guess I’ll wait a week, update to a tested firmware, sell the drives on eBay as “like new” then buy new drives from someone other than Seagate

search.jsp?DocId=207931 page to say drives mfg thru Dec then to in Dec back to thru Dec, added a serial number checker which didn’t give proper results, released a firmware which didn’t work as intended ... etc. It’s a joke. Also, to those who suggest backing up data before a firmware update ... I should buy 7*1TB drives for a $1000 to backup the data I have because Seagate made a mistake?

As far as Ebay, good luck :-) Anyone who can read by now knows about seagate drives.
Seems like the firmware won't do any miracles for most of the drives that are bricked from the "no seen on Bios issue", and Seagate not really ofering any data recovery services as suggested, forums users on another post are saying only choice is to RMA drives and loose data, so what exactly is Seagate doing to help customers? Still no oficial word from Seagate either, WOW.......... amazing
Have 5 drives to reflash, i guess i'll wait little longer.
