I agree with you!
I am in same situation two ST3320613AS are out (one after 10 minutues, second after 1 hour) - sometimes vanished from BIOS, SMART BAD status, no way to read, format. Tested on asus MB with intel 925X ICH6R, X58 ICH10R and also on JMicron USB ATAPI bridge!!
SEAGATE, when will be the SD22 fixed?

I have two ST31000333AS 1TB drives in firmware SD15.
And both of them are reported as status cation by CystalDiskInfo. ![]()
I followed this thread for days and desire to see there's new firmware for ST31000333AS but all I can do is waiting.
Will there be a firmware update for ST31000333AS and other series that stil listed as "In Validation" in KB?

Sorry for my bad english.
In my ST3320613AS 320Gb disk, the firmware is SD42, and the BIOS recognize 0Gb. What about new firmware?

I'm not sure if CrystalDiskInfo is a good way to test the drives. I downloaded it, and it shows ALL of my drives as bad even not Seagate ones. It is also reading completely different SMART values as the other utilities i've used so far. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm also having a ST31000333AS 1TB drive with SD15 firmware, on a Win XP Pro SP3 System.

I have ST31000340AS [Hard drive] (1000.20 GB) -- SN 9QJ0R4RL Revision SD15 PN 9BX1A8-570.
I have two concerns before I try this firmware upgrade.
One, does it work with this PN? I haven't seen this part number mentioned, and am finding this thread hard to follow with so many numbers being posted about.
Two, seeing the posts about it showing 0 cache after the upgrade. My current cache for this drive shows unknown or 0, depending on the program.
So, I purchased another 1 gig drive I can use to clone this drive before attempting the firmware update. Do I go ahead, or do I wait for someone who's part number matches mine before I do this?
I appreciate the help provided here. My closest tech support place is 50 miles away from this rural area so I need to do this myself.
Thanks,
Ruth

What's going on with Seagate. The update FW has been listed for two days, requests to discsupport@seagate.com get no response and this thread has no news in days.
Just give us a download already.
Or at least tell us something.

Yeah, success. I was very very worried reading the horror stories about the firmware bug and the solution turning into HD bricking. My 1 tb Model: ST31000340AS, Serial: 3QJ01KAT, Firmware: SD15 was affected by the bug but still OK (how long?).
I did not wanted to spend 100 euros to buy another 1tb for backup so I decided to risk. I've created the CD with the right firmware image (MooseDT-SD1A-3D4D-16-32MB), then detached the power cable of the bootable maxtor HD (only the 1 tb and the PATA CDROM left attached), boot from CD, F10 to exit readme, S to see if disk was seen from the updater then C to update, then power off using the updater, then power on, OK.
I don't know how I could feel if something went wrong, but both the HD and one hundred euros are safe now
