Hey guys...I've been following this fiasco and was excited for the fix, but I've got......
ST3000DM001-9YN166 (s# z1f070h7) revision CC96 and I can't update.
Am I missing something?

can the firmware be updated if my 3TB hard drive is placed in a HDD dock connected to a laptop via a USB?
I asked this cos the programme will reboot to DOS and I'm not sure if the USB can be detected in DOS.

Are you sure CC96 can be updated to CC4x?

I have the ST2000DM001-9YN164 and it updated AOK.
I haven't heard a single chirp sound since
Thanks AlanM for coordinating this fix.

I have the ST2000DM001-9YN164 (CC4C) but strangely it's not possible to update the firmware.
C: SSD
D: ST2000DM001-9YN164
E: ST2000DM001-9YN164
Please let me know if you need more information.
Could it be the problem of the number of platters?

I'm also having the same problem as a few others that can't update their firmware. I have the 2TB version with firmware CC9D.

I'm on a 2TB ST2000DM001, Current FIRMWARE CC4C
Tried updating using both the .exe and ISO.. From the DOS program it says FAILED in big red letters. Upon scanning for any ATA interfaces, it can't find any. ???
I've played around in the BIOS changing ACHI to regular ATA, and then the program won't even run.
Bit of a lose end now. Tried quite a few things, but consistently getting the FAILED. It was getting late, so i had to abandon and will try again later this evening.
It is my secondary, so my next steps are to remove the SSD primary, then try again.. Or throw the ST2000DM001 into my older P5Q Pro / Q6600, and try again, with just that drive installed. My current setup is a 2600k on an Asus P8Z77 V-LX mobo. (if that helps Seagate diagnose?)
Anyway, still living with my worrying chrip & screech since i'm still on the CC4C firmware. Hopefully tonight, i'll have some better luck.

What a HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!!
model st3000dm001-9yn166 - FW CC9D - will not download firmware
model st3000dm001-9yn166 - FW CC4C - will not download firmware
model st3000dm001-9yn166 - FW CC9D - will not download firmware
model st3000dm001-9yn166 - FW CC9B - will not download firmware
I have a total of 8 drives - all essentially the same drive model - all chirping - thanks for nothing seagate.
what? Why can't Seagate make a fw update that can update all models of a drive - no matter what the firmware - and before someone says they use different hardware - who cares? Just detect the right firmware update for the right drive - if that requires 4 different firmware updates versions depending on the drive so be it. THis is both lazy programming and just a general lack of effort on the part of Seagate!

Hi,
After i click proceed, it says "partition limits error" and "something wrong has happened while trying to start firmware update"
Any ideas why? My hdd is : ST3000DM001 with CC4C fw.
Thank you.

It does work, dare I say it it's you doing something wrong
Try disabling your AV when flashing and only have one drive at a time connected for those with multiple drives to do.hth.
