Please see this firmware update here.

So does this fix the chirping and the high load cycle count issue? If so I'll pick one up again. I don't see any documentation about what this firmware actually does or am I being blind?

It should help with the chirping, yes.
I'd be interested in seeing how the load cycle counts react with the new firmware. Interaction with third-party SMART utilities like what you mention has never been high on the Seagate priority list, honestly, so I don't know about that.

Perfekt ! Seagate did a good Job !!!!!: ![]()
No Chirping ! Testet on 3 x ST2000DM001 !!!
The Load Cycles still raises but I don't care.
Thanks !! Performance ist still great Outer Disk Transer Rate 216 MB/s and Access Time 14 ms !

Can i ask you how fast load cycles raises?
You know that these drives are rated for 300 000 cycles, right?
So 120 cycles for a hour used like secondary drive is UNACCEPTABLE...

1 x ST2000DM001 (Win7 Prof 64) second Drive. My Boot drive is an intel SSD 320 Series 160 GB: 6581 Load Cycles and 1479 houres => 4,4 Load Cycles / hour
1 x ST2000DM001 (Synology DS212J first drive) : 204 LC and 959 hours = 0,21 LC / hour.
1 ST2000DM001 -> New
In my opinion it´s ok.
I do not see it so closely, because I know users who have 5.000 LCs on WD20EARS and the drive ist dead, Another users have on the same drive 2.000.0000 LLC and the drive is fine.
BUT: 120 LC / hour is actually a bit too much.

Hi! I'm from Brazil and my drive (2TB ST2000DM001) does the "chirp" sound too.....
I tried to update my drive today and my firmware drive (CC9D) is not compatible with this new update. The utility says: "NO FIRMWARE MATCH"
How can you guys help me?
Thanks a lot!

I have the same issue.
I updated FW to CC9D for ST3000DM001-9YN166 last week (which did not fix the problem) and now I can't upgrade to the one that "does" fix it?
Please help.
