My ST31000340AS was already LBA=0.

following messages was dmesg on Linux.

ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
ata1.00: failed to read native max address (err_mask=0x1)
ata1.00: HPA support seems broken, skipping HPA handling
ata1.00: ATA-8: ST31000340AS, SD15, max UDMA/133
ata1.00: 0 sectors, multi 0: LBA NCQ (depth 0/32)
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133 (device error ignored)

I updated firmware SD15 to SD1A.

I saw success.

But, my HDD still LBA=0.

ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
ata1.00: failed to read native max address (err_mask=0x1)
ata1.00: HPA support seems broken, skipping HPA handling
ata1.00: ATA-8: ST31000340AS, SD1A, max UDMA/133
ata1.00: 0 sectors, multi 0: LBA NCQ (depth 0/32)
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133 (device error ignored)

Please tell me, how to fix.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the SD1A firmware download in the KB article for the 1TB ST31000340AS differs from the SD1A firmware that was temporarily available on January 19th? I'd have to reflash my drives if so...

Alan,

Please work with tech support to clairify this issue...and update the webpage for the download:

The firmware you show is for SD15, 16 etc.  What about those of us that had SD15(on a good drive), then went to SD1A(thus breaking the drive).  It is not clear if people who did this should use the updated firmware because SD1A is not listed as affected.   I know...not listed it's not for me would be the obvious thing...but I want to be absolutely clear on what people should do in this situation as I do not see a firware update from SD1A

 (I have the ST3500320AS)

Thanks,

Alex

yes. I used it on my ST3500320AS.  It was originally SD15, then I had flashed it to SD1A on monday that turned it into a brick.  I used this new SD1A this morning and now my drive works again.
