Barracuda 7200.11 PCB Change eprom issue.

Hi to everybody.

Defective power supply cable has damaged my HD Pcb.

I have to HD Seagate 7200.11 PCB.

I have tried to exchange the PCB, but even if the HD motor start to run I can hear heads sound.

I have found on this forum that I have to exchange the eprom.

So I did it...........and now I am in trouble.  :smileyhappy:

Unfortunately I did not recognised that two pins where still attached and I have remove the copper base on the pcb.

I do not find any explanation to rebuild the copper base.

This is the picture.

Waiting for Your kind answer.

Thank You very much.

Re: Barracuda 7200.11 PCB Change eprom issue.

The damage is not too severe. A competent technician (eg your local TV/AV repairer) should be able to repair it without too much effort.

The dot on the PCB identifies pin #1.

Pin #4 is ground. It can be wired to a nearby PCB ground by using wirewrap wire.

Pin #7 can be connected to pin #3 with a wire link.

Be very careful. If you damage the IC, data recovery will become very expensive.

An alternative solution may be to purchase a replacement PCB from one of the following suppliers. They offer a firmware transfer service, either for free, or for US$10. They should be able to read your EEPROM and reprogram a replacement board.

I would advise that you avoid those suppliers who don't tell you that a board won't work without modification. Often they will attempt to obscure the requirement for a firmware transfer by deceptively describing their products as being "for data recovery only".

This supplier is also recommended for finding a matchiing pcb for your drive: http://www.hddzone.com/seagate-barracuda-720011-pcb-c-8.html

Your local tv repair/phone repair shop can offer a firmware transfer service for $5-$20.
