Hi,
My Barracuda 7200.11 appears to have stopped functioning all of a sudden.
The computer was powered on and left unattended for a 1-2 hours but when
I came back I saw a BIOS message saying the system doesn't have a bootable disk.
The disk didn't make any unusual noise before the incident and appeared to be spinning afterwards.
The BIOS setup program was unable to detect the disk. I booted the system using a Linux live CD and the OS also failed to detect the disk. The CD/DVD drive was working so I tried connecting the disk with the optical drive's power and SATA cables, but with no luck.
I took the disk to a repair shop but they weren't able to make anything out of it except replace it with a new one. Seagate support isn't helping because they say it's an OEM disk. Fujitsu, the computer vendor, considers the case closed because they replaced the malfunctioning disk with a new one.
Here's some more details about the disk:
Does anyone have ideas on how to diagnose the issue further and to recover data from the disk?

Thank you very much for your helpful reply!
After reading the bulletin I phoned Seagate support again, now being able to drop a few keywords from their bulletin, they arranged shipping for the drive to their nearest data recovery location. The drive's firmware was updated and now I got the drive back and everything's working again!
I must say that I'm extremely unhappy with Fujitsu-Siemens support as well as their repair contractor InfoCare for not being able to help or diagnose this issue. I clearly stated that there was valuable information on the disk but they made no effort and just announced the drive dead.
The Seagate bulletin was made dated 1/16/2009 and was issued publicly so I'd assume that Fujitsu-Siemens was aware of this issue but they didn't inform their customers about it. Also, the repair contractor should've been aware of this issue.
Seagate's handling of the issue on the other hand was quite satisfactory all things considered.

Contact seagate and see what they can say about the SN and if it is an "affected" drive. They'll be able to assist you better than the community forums will on this particular issue.
They may be able to do something to make you happy with their drives again OR at the very least give you a satisfactory outcome to the situation.
Also, not a good idea to post your SN on here...it's against forum rules and your post will likely be editted at some point...
