Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528as help needed

Hi this my first post.

Basically I took my drive round a friends house and it started clicking and took a while for the mac to detect it. I didn't use it for a week or so and I plugged into my mac doesn't get detected at all. It also clicks constantly. This drives less than a year maybe 8 months. It's in a external enclosure so I tried in a different one same problems.

I read on the seagate website there was a fault so I've been trying to do the FW update on pc with the boot disk software. It's got FW CC46 and I'm trying to update to cc49. It's started the update but just shows my drive like this

Model ST31000528AS SN 9VP***** FW CC46 on Generic PCI ATA Bus 0 Device 0

All that's happening now is the cursors flashing. Seagate says not to turn the computer off whatever happens so it's been sitting there for 30mins now. Can anyone help me advise. Thanks

Ok I managed to get the update to work by changing to ahci and now the clickings gone but my mac or pc won't detect the drive? Do I need any software to run a smart test?

Ok it clicks a couple times when I turn it on but then stops. Just before the clicks the hhd green light comes on which means it's connected then it cuts out with the click
