Barracuda Green - unable to upgrade firmware CC32

Hello,

Current FW of  My Barracuda Green harddisk ST2000DL003-9VT166 isCC3C. I've burned a bootable CD with BarracudaGreen-ALL-CC32.iso. I'm unable to upgrade the firmware.

Some informations :

HD mounted internally in a Tower DELL 780 optiplex (only this HD installed)

BIOS modified with following option : SATA AHCI activated, then desactivated with PCI ATA activated.

In both cases, warning message is the same : "Model matched, no firmware matched! Will not download Firmware. Model matched but firmaware version is not compartible".

Please, can you help me?

Re: Barracuda Green - unable to upgrade firmware CC32

I can't be sure but I think Dell is your enemy here, it will be either they have their own FW if the drive was supplied by them, or they have a utility called Disk Sentinal or similar that thinks anything it's not heard of before is a virus and blocks it out, one thing quick that may sort it because I've had to do it before is to use a CD drive that isn't anything to do with Dell.

Re: Barracuda Green - unable to upgrade firmware CC32

Here is the update matrix for that particular firmware:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/BG-CC32.TXT

The reason that the updater rejects your drive is that its current firmware combination does not match any of those (eg BGD15D.CCD3.AAAQ00.CC31.D554) in the abovementioned file.

You could forcibly update your firmware, but I would be very hesitant to try it. I say this because Seagate's new model numbering system no longer reflects the physical construction of the drive. For example, in the old system, the model number would indicate the number of platters. Nowadays the same model number can have several different physical implementations, in which case applying the wrong firmware module will brick your drive.

For example, the ST2000DM001-9YN164 model can have 4, 5, or 6 heads:

Re: Barracuda Green - unable to upgrade firmware CC32

Hi,

thanks for your answer. But please, how can I check if my HD is ok or not with your list . In other words, where can I find the referencer such as (eg) BGD15D.CCD3.AAAQ00.CC31.D554 on my HD or which tool can do it for me?

Thanks by advance.

Obviously Seagate's flash utility can retrieve this information, but it does so by using proprietary, vendor specific ATA commands. The only other way I know of getting this information is by connecting to the drive's serial terminal port, but you will need to purchase a serial RS232 TTL interface.
