Barracuda LP Clicking "ST32000542AS"

[ Edited ]

Hey,

I have 2x ST32000542AS and noticed that they "CLICK" really loudly and sometimes I have even heard a scary "SCAPING" sound...

I must admit any Clicking sounds always scare me with HDD's.

Both are running CC34 Firmware, from the googling I have done it looks like CC35 "Could / should" fix this issues.

I have tried the "Windows" Firmware CC35 update but when the process ran it wouldn’t update the HDD.

S/N: 5XW10B2Y

Any help on this would be appreciated as I can't tell if the Disk is click as it’s faulty or its just "Ment" to click like that

Re: Barracuda LP Clicking "ST32000542AS"

Bump.

Forced CC35 onto the disks as some users in the other forums have advised.

The disk benchmarks haven't reduced in performance and the clicking sound "Seems" to have been reduced, even tho there is some here and there.

Unimpressed with Seagate in 10 years I have only used their disks as I have always felt them to be superior. So many forum posts on the same topic and no finite response from Seagate.

Just adhering to the "Oh we'll patch it later" attitude lots of companies have fallen into. :smileysad:

Well it doesnt look like the CC35 Firmware has fixed the issue.

While under access they don't make any noise.

But while Idle Loud Clicks and Cluks can be heard from them Possible head parking. But its VERY Audible!

Is there anything that can be done?

They both pass the "Long Generic" test on Seatools DOS.

Peter, that drive is dying, back it up asap and RMA it.

Re: Barracuda LP Clicking "ST32000542AS"

I'm having the same problem.  Had clicking with one drive until it RMA'd it after a long generic fail.  The replacement drive also suffers from clicking.  I didn't discover the CC35 firmware until after I received the replacement.  Quite a headache to force CC35 onto the new drive and the problem is still there.  It seems less severe, but it's still there.
