Barracuda ST3000dm001 issues

We have bought 5 of these drives and 3 work fine and 2 of them are having issues.  We formated them all the same within windows.  however 2 of them are getting corrupt after very little use.  Tried internal and external in usb 3.0 enclosures.  Tried the diskwizard software from the download page and that will only let us set a 2 tb partition and will not do the rest it gives an error.  Both drives have the same issue with diskwizard.  Ran the seatools and test pass with no errors.  Used Mint Linux, Windows 2003 server and windows 7 and the data corruption happens on all of them.  Windows 2003 will give an alert that the drive is corrupt and on the next reboot it attemps a chkdsk but it locks up.  When trying to run the chkdsk in windows it locks up.  Then when you reboot the drive is now seen as RAW or after a reboot the computer will see the drive as unformated and want to format it again.  These are being used as data drives not boot drives.  Seen in the forums that there was another version of diskwizard but cant find the download to it.  And if 3 of our 5 drives work fine why should we need it for the other 2 drives unless there is something wrong with them that the test program is not finding.  Request an RMA?

Any suggestions out there.  Thanks.

You probably have the old version of Diskwizard, try this one........http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/discwizard/DiscWizardSetup-14355.en.exe

Great, link is dead right now, stay in touch and I'll try to find it's new location for you.

Re: Barracuda ST3000dm001 issues

Thanks for the software, still have issues with the drives.  I am going to RMA them.  the disk wizard software when using the add disk and then mbr option will do the first 2tb but after restarting the computer and running disk wizard again the wizard will start up and want to do the unlocated space but then it fails.  If using the GPT option it creates the partition but after you put data on it it becomes corrupt.  Try to run chkdsk on them and they can not complete the check they just sit there with no activity.

Thanks for the help.

Cantbecanit, is this "14387" version of DiscWizard a later version than the one from the DiscWizard download page?

I made a CD from the latter version the other day but after DOS boots, the screen just turns to gobbledygook.

It is indeed, much newer than the link version which is still in the 13's for numerical naming, there was a 14555 before this one as well,

It's not a dos program, it's a windows one, the dos one is Seatools

enjoy
