Big Problem since SD1A firmware

Hi,

Sorry for my bad english...

I have two ST3500320AS disks (SD15).

There are now in SD1A (latest version, available in another topic) but I have a problem since...

My two disks are in RAID 1 on an ICH9R (Matrix Raid) controller (Driver 8.7.0.1007 but same problem with 8.6.0.1007).

Sometimes (when watching a video with VLC for example) everything is blocked :

Always :

- I have an error in windows events : \Device\Ide\IaStor0 did not respond...

And randomly

- The raid starts rebuilding

- One disk is seen with a problem and "must be replaced" (if I stop and start the computer : it's ok, the raid starts rebuilding).

- I have a BSOD

Before (In SD15) no problem in one year...

What to do ?

Thanks

Re: Big Problem since SD1A firmware

Thanks but it's not a software problem.

Already try to reinstall Windows and to redo the Raid.

Re: Big Problem since SD1A firmware

i have exactly the same problem. my setup is:

four ST3500320AS with firmware SD1A in a raid10 (raid 0+1) configuration on an ICH10R controller with intel matrix storage driver 8.7.0.1007.

i was using the same driver and same setup with firmware SD15 without problems for months.

since i upgraded the firmware to SD1A i experience random lockups (usually when playing music or watching a videa in windows media player). the intel matrix storage console says something like your raid volume is degraded because one device is missing. it happened twice so far and once it was the disk on port 0 and then the disk on port 1 that was missing. the system became responsive after around 30 to 60 seconds again and the raid volume is being rebuild.

i strongly believe this is an issue with the firmware since i have been using the very same setup since september 2008 without any problems whatsoever. the problem surfaced only after updating to SD1A.

i would greatly appreciate any assistance in this matter or comments if anyone else has the same problem.

Re: Big Problem since SD1A firmware

I have a similar problem but in an only-disk configuration. The disk disappears from the system when it's not used for a while since the update to firmware sd1a.

What i found was that it happens when you have configured the disk to turn off from inactivity in the power options profile in windows.

So if you configure the disk to NEVER turn off, you don't have the problem (still i opened a case with seagate as we should be able to use a low power consumption profile in our disks).

[ Edited ]

I'm not the only person to have this problem ; it's a "good thing".

Maybe the Seagate support will have a look to this problem...

Do you think we need to open a new ticket ? If yes, could you do it because my english is not very good...

Thanks

Edit : thanks Ripley for your answer but mine does not power off, I have the problem when I'm watching a video for example.

Re: Big Problem since SD1A firmware

Same problem! I updated my ST3500320AS w/ the second firmware update release... It DID work at first, but then I started getting blu screens w/ my Vista x64 (after a few days).

I then tried reinstalling everything by reformatting the drive... but the Windows installation CANNOT format the drive. The BIOS does find it and reports the correct size... but I cannot use the drive at all.

My drive is used as an only drive which renders my computer unusable.

Can you guys at Seagate please recheck the update? It's really annoying I cannot use my main computer (writing this from a laptop).

Re: Big Problem since SD1A firmware

I had exaclty the same problem after updating the firmware, but at the same time I got a warning that Vista was incompatible with my chipset (X58). I installed the latest Intel chipset drivers (9.1.0.1012 ) and I have not had the problem since.
