Just purchased a new retail st3500320as sn: 9qm3gj7f to replace a 6 month old drive of the same make/model that has failed. I could not wait for the rma'd drive.
Drive installed fine. Installed xp pro 64, and most of my other apps. Installed and ran seatools. The short and long dst tests fail after about 10 seconds. The SMART and short generic tests pass. The drive seems to be peforming ok. There are now windows error or smart erros in the OS error logs.
I also have an issue with seagates rma process. They now charge $20 to get replacement drives shipped 2 day air. No option to send the drive first with a refundable deposit. Also, return shipping on a drive in warranty used to be free. What has happened to customer service?

I had to RMA a drive twice - same product, same problem. They waived the cost of advance replacement and 2 way shipping the second time.
As yours is the same product but on two separate purchases, your luck may vary, but give Customer Service a call and see what they will do for you.
