Re: Buzzing Noise Seagate ST3500630AS

FWIW, I have a 20GB Fujitsu drive that vibrates very noticably to the touch but doesn't rattle my metalwork. It doesn't show a single error in the SMART report.

In your case, in order for a warranty claim to be accepted, your drive would need to fail Seagate's SeaTools diagnostic program. A small number of reallocated sectors may not be enough to fail the drive, even though they may be worrisome to you. A noisy drive normally wouldn't qualify for replacement either, unless the noise is associated with failures.

Maybe the addition of a cooler may change the resonance characteristics of your metalwork???

Otherwise, try searching for a vibration damper.

Sorry, I can't suggest anything else. :-(

Re: Buzzing Noise Seagate ST3500630AS

I started last Friday getting a BIOS screen telling me my hard drive is in Imminent Failure.  I purchased another hard drive (the same one I have) and computer tells me to insert disc so I insert the System Recovery Disc and I get Non-Disc or Disc Read Error.  Any suggestions on what I can do to get the new hard drive installed.  I had to reinstall the old one (im using it now) so I could get on the internet and try and find an answer.

Thanks So much

Re: Buzzing Noise Seagate ST3500630AS

What appears to be happening is that the BIOS is selecting your new drive as the first boot device. You need to reconfigure the boot order so that the CDROM comes before the hard drive.

Re: Buzzing Noise Seagate ST3500630AS

The exact procedure depends on your BIOS. Hopefully the following article will help.
