Diamondmax 21

[ Edited ]

Diamondmax 21  320 GB

S/N [Edited: Removed personal information per the community rules and regulations.]

P/N 9DP13G-326

STM3320820AS

I have the above hard drive. Used to store family photos on. Stored outside the computer only connected when needed.

I shut down my computer today connected the above drive and when I pushed the power button nothing happened. Have tried different power connectors and both sata connectors on my motherboard.

Has lots memories on the drive is there anyway to fix it.

Cheers

Re: Diamondmax 21

You pushed the power button and nothing happened?

What happens when you fit another drive? if it boots you either have a dead drive or not connected properly, if it doesn't then either your PSU is dead or the case switch is knackered.

Re: Diamondmax 21

When the drive is removed and another sata drive is connected the computer boots up as normal.

Re: Diamondmax 21

What do mean by "nothing happened"?

Did the computer POST at all? If so, did the HDD spin up? Did it make any sound or vibrate as if were trying to spin up?

Did the computer's fans kick once and then stop?

I say nothing happens, but The fans in the computer, twitch and that is all. Computer does not boot or anything. Replace the hard drive and the computer boots. Can post pics off the back of the hard drive if that would help. Russ

Re: Diamondmax 21

There is a short circuit on either the +5V or +12V supply. The solution may be as simple as removing a shorted TVS diode.

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

Re: Diamondmax 21

sadly when it shorts out like that, its a low percentage that only a TVS diode fried
