Heya!

I would just RMA it to Seagate. I have a friend who also had a tiny broken connector (which was already broken when he bought it). No problem with RMA, a new hdd arrived within 1-2 weeks or so.. :smileyhappy:

On the top left of this page, click on "warranty and returns", and then click on "verify warranty & submit returns"

Then just follow the instructions, fill in the forms, print the address and get a good box to send your drive back.

You may have to ship it over to another country.

if any authorized person could approve that this product is still in the warranty

i can go consumer rights and claim that this product has to be replaced by the reseller

You can check the warranty yourself by putting the serial number in the top left menu.  Seagate support staff don't come here, you would have to ring them or use the chat system.

Re: Does this broken part of my harddisk make my product out of warranty ?

We don't know. Ask support thru chat or something. All I know is it *should* be in warranty cause me and my friends has shipped back many hdds with broken connectors and there hasn't been any problem at all! heck, I even sent back a hdd a few weeks ago with a tiny plastic piece missing from the data connector, no problem at all. It's not like Seagate checks all hdds they get back, they probably verify that the actual hdd is in the box you sent in then dumps the hdd together with all other hdds at the collection point in a big container and ships it away when full. As soon as Seagate can verify that you actually sent in a hdd they send you a new one. I doubt they have time to go thru all packages they receive. I could be wrong tho, just ship it to Seagate and see what happens.. I highly doubt they'll reject you.. can you imagine how many hdds they receive? Just a thought.

RMA it and everything should be fine, best of luck. :smileyhappy:

Re: Does this broken part of my harddisk make my product out of warranty ?

It's up to Seagate. That tab is there to prevent you from plugging the power cable in backwards. With it broken off, you could have plugged it in backwards and blown the controller board. It would be easy for Seagate to simply write it off as "user inflicted damage" and void your warrenty. On the other hand they could check the controller board for damage, find that the drive died of natural causes and honor your warrenty.
