I'd say the serial checker is not working. I had Seagate support check my serials, and they said the drives are affected. The serial checker says they are not. Given that I've already had one drive out of this batch fail, and they were bought in the middle of the known failure period, I'm not inclined to believe the online checker at all.
You only have to check other forums to see that people with failed drives are being told their drives are not affected.

Well, I just tested my serials with the online tool, and ALL of my six drives are affected (ST31000340AS).
It is obviously checking something...

Sheesh... It happens to me also. I think it must be written in Caps (for easier readability or strange coding stuff).
Man, Seagate must put some more effort in this next firmware or I won't ever rely more on them.

I have two ST31500341AS (1.5TB) (CC1G and SD17). The SD17 is a replacement of another ST31500341AS.
The previous one had clicks, stuttered and rebuilt continuously after plugging it it. I removed it within a week.
The new one rebuilt two times within ten days, and I am scared to turn the machine off.
The "checker" says "unaffected".
