Re: Firmware update Boot CD Does not work

You don't need to worry about the only 2 files that you can see on the CD.

You can't see the other files, it's for boot PC and the boot files you never see it

by the normal browser. So just burn it as instructed by seagte forum then boot PC from that CD.

The problem is (for my case) I can not boot from the PC that using SATA CD/DVD drive

(in this case my CD/DVD - SATA).

So I can boot from another PC that has IDE CD/DVD drive.

But I don't know in the BIOS I have 4 options to choose for SATA operation (DELL 8400):

1- RAID Autodetect / AHCI

2- RAID Autodetect / ATA

3- RAID On

4- Combinasion ((SATA/PATA)

So pls help which option I need to choose?

Thanks

Re: Firmware update Boot CD Does not work

When I said nothing happens, I meant after the cd boots and I get a menu wanting me to select 1 of two drive updates that are listed, when I select the correct model for my machine, nothing happens, just locks up after that. My drive still works, just reboots every so often for no apparent reason, and I get a no drive found every so often. Thanks

Re: Firmware update Boot CD Does not work

- invalid opcode -

- boots into windows even with boot from cd set as first in boot order -

Ok.  After upgrading CD Burner firmware, changing out CD Burners, burning multiple CDs ...

1. On my Dell, I had to DISABLE RAID (AHCI) to boot from the CD ISO.  Otherwise, invalid opcode.  After the upgrade, I switched it back.  DON'T LET IT BOOT into Windows with it switched.

2. On my Gigabyte 78GM based mobo, I had to get the CD ROM off AHCI by moving it to SATA port 4 and set to ports 4/5 to IDE in BIOS.  Otherwise it just went into Windows without even attempting to boot from CD -- even though BIOS was set to boot CD first.

Re: Firmware update Boot CD Does not work

I don't have any raid options enabled in the bios, I used Nero to burn the Bood CD, I don't have a floppy drive, so it is disabled in the bios, I don't have a clue why it won't work. Thanks

Re: Firmware update Boot CD Does not work

I had to update HDD firmware to solve clicking noises.

My HDD is ST9500420ASG. (SATA)

Firmware was provided by DELL (OEM) but uses a Bootable CD image (Seagate utility.ISO) wich never booted.

I tried to run the utility directly but it gave me a "This app can run only on 32 bit OS" message (Vista 64 OS)

Tried many 32 bits OS bootable CD images and pen drive formatters without success, probably because those never managed to find SATA drives.

Finally in http://genetikayos.livejournal.com/43998.html they mentioned

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/diags/CW1310A0.EXE .  This utility makes a bootable pen drive THAT BOOTS WITH SATA's

Just disable (REM) the last 2 lines in the autoexec.bat (to avoid the Dell diags and reach the command prompt),

copy to the pen drive the (extracted, uncompressed) firmware update files folder and restart with pen drive plugged in.

When command prompt (A:smileyembarrassed:) appears, switch to C:, execute \my_update_path\my_update_app.exe (\R250679\autoexec.bat in my case) and wait until update finishes.

Good luck
