I keep getting this error message upon trying to update my Seagate ST2000DM001 from CC4C to CC4H: Error. This utility must be installed on BIOS disk 0. Please install this utility on drive D:

My Seagate drive IS drive D: on BIOS disk 0. I've tried running the install from off of the actual disk, nothing works. Cannot get past this. Is it because my storage is on disk 0 and my OS (OCZ Vertex 4) is on disk 1? Thanks in advance for any help!

I would advise that you use the CD ISO version of the updater. The Windows version temporarily overwrites the MBR. Sometimes it is unsuccessful in restoring the MBR, resulting in disaster. I believe it does this to ensure that the updater has complete control over the drive, free from potential interference by background Windows tasks. That's why it insists on installing itself on the boot drive.

Thanks, that worked. I didn't even notice the second option for a bootable update. Seagate's website needs some serious organization changes for this kind of stuff. By the time I've found what I need, I've got three different popup windows open, all counter-intuitive in their arrangement of information.

I have the same issue. Flashing from DOS didnot work either. Got a message that controller was not found. Connected to all SATA ports available - no result. Motherboard - ASUS Z77 Sabertooth, hard drive - ST3000DM001-9YN166, firmware - CC4C. All hard drive tools (including Seagate ones) see the drive correctly.

Any further ideas on what to do?

Temporarily select IDE Mode for your SATA Mode Selection in your BIOS setup. This will make your SATA HDD look like PATA. After the firmware update, revert to the original BIOS setting.
