Just so everyone is on same page.... I'm using Vista 64...
I'll do more snooping.... Tonight....
Let me ask one other question to Seagate, who I would hope is monitoring this thread...
If the update code is already installed in this area, why is it that it doesn't just RUN, find nothing, and then remove itself??
Is that too much to ask?

I have the driver floppy... but after booting Vista 64 disk, selecting Repair, seeing no OS, loading driver off floppy (Which Repair sees as the controller (Adaptec 7902B - Ultra 320 SCSI) , it says "Driver Installation failed"... Just to be certain, I created a 2nd driver disk from the Supermicro driver disk tool, did I did a checkdisk on the floppies, and it finds no errors...
It still won't find the OS.... so I can't run bootrec /fixmbr.
Any suggestions?

So I thought.... The firmware updater got me into this mess, maybe a successful completion of the firmware updater will get me out of this mess...
So I ran the Windows firmware updater again.... and it did everything it should.... discovered that all the drives had proper firmware, and then issued a re-boot...
"Hit any key to continue"
Gret software folks!!!

Well, I can report that after trading emails with seagate support, About the only thing I'm getting back from them is multiple requests for the serial number of the drive.... No help whatsoever with the problem..
I'd like to thank the folks here who attempted to help me... Unfortunately, I cannot include any Seagate personell in that list...
I did get one email from Seagate indicating a link that had a MBR fix procedure.... but when I went to that link, it went no-where, and when I replied to that email, including a copy of that email in the reply... Seagate replied that they are not allowed to check any links in emails... Never mind that it was their email link....
So... If anyone has any links to fixing a Vista 64 MBR from within Windows Vista 64 Bit OS.... I'd love to hear about it...
Thanks again to all who offered suggestions....

Get your Vista disk out and boot it up and select repair when you see it on the bottom as an option
This will fix boot problems

Gee, I wish it was this easy...
I did try it, and this is what happened... See pictures.....
Repair doesn't see an OS... (Probably because of the hit any key and SCSI controller not being seen from Vista Repair... Now look at the next picture... it shows what happens when you continue on, and let it try and fix bootup problems...
If I reboot after the "FIX" it still says it's not a system disk, hit any key to continue... and so I do, and it boots Vista 64...
It has done this ever since I used the windows updater software .....

If Vista cannot see the disk then there is a problem
If you have a Windows 7 DVD see if that once can see the disk
could be Vista lacks support for the chipset intrinsically

WOW... I particularly like the way you have me do a test by changing E in error... That's Very smart...
I'm just going very slowely to make certain I have the steps correct and procedures down pat....
I'll attempt this this weekend.... First by changing the spelling of "Error" then I'll replace it...
I really appreciate the time and patience you have expended on directing me in this...
I'll try some dry runs to verify that I've got the instructions down... before attempting it.
Thanks again... Jan
