I had two CC4C drives update sucesffuly to CC4H using a ISO file but this did not work on the CC9C drives. I then entered my seral/mdoel on the segate drive-detect page and it gave me a differnt iso file for CC9C. THis did not work either it said "Match config file but firmeware cannot be opened or exit"
I have the exact settings / setup etc as when the CC4C drives updated sucessfully. I also tried using IDE mode but it froze at
somthing like "inst disk" which i assume means inilising disk. I have the Asus p5q pro turbo with the latest BIOS. I want to avoid using the windows version since i heard there are issues with the software affecting the MBR also windows 7 is in AHCI mode and the program need IDE mode IIRC and if i change it windows will BSOD upon startup. Please advise

The CCh4 drives updates fine
The CC9C drives did not. I used the this link https://apps1.seagate.com/downloads/request.html to get the right ISO file for CC9C to upgrade to CC9D and it said CC9D on the ISO so its the right file but it says "Match config file but firmeware cannot be opened or exit". The ISO version is the latest since only downloed a few days ago so how do i get it to upgrade?
Is there a way to run the installer (non-ISO) version in windows 7 in AHCI mode AND would thsi way work?
Since the lack of the CC9D firmware can we assume that the firmware is "broke" if so should i forget about upgrading the CC9C drives? Thanks

Hi,
this model has a production error, but Seagate does not want to remove it from the shops.
The solutions give you, do not work. I update the firmware and stopped making noise, 5 days later the HD was dead.
Do not trust the firmware updates. It's a hardware problem and not fixed with a firmware update.
If so would already have been fixed in the first patch.
The only solution is massive Replacement around the world.

1) fzabkar. There doesnt seem to be a dedicated web page to download from. the ISO name is "Barracuda-ALL-GRCC9D" if that helps you find a website path?Failing that could you give another go at downloading it yourself?
2) Is there anything else i can do / change settings to make the firmware update? Or a windows version rather than ISO?
3) Any idea why the CC9D is no longer working should i forget about updating them in fear of making the drive worse/unreliable? Can anyone confrim that CC9D firmware is safe?
4) VSM 1966 you said this model has a production error; what info do you have on this. Also would that be just CC9D firmware drives or all STDM001 drives
THanks everyone for the help

Just see how many problems you have to see that this model can only be that. This HD has not been in the market and it is known as the disk with the "funny noise", if not break soon I would not mind, but the truth is that they break very often.
I have six and two are dead. If you open an RMA, they call you to find you a solution Seagate, Seagate sent you, the same HD with the same problems.
Seagate knows this but just want to spend time to finish the warranty.
¿Because you think you have lowered the warranty of 5 years to 1 year?
