Re: Any poster can change the subject heading at any time.

i just got quoted by the data recovery service at $1750 for data recovery or $0 if it is a firmware issue.... too bad no one at seagate will  thoroughly help me determine if this is a firmware issue. Also too bad that they wont recover the data for the many non-firmware issues:/

Re: Free Refund or Free Upgrade

The problem is, Seagate promises a lot and treats you like a **bleep**. I feel so dirty dealing with Seagate.

start by posting your details. model number, serial number, etc. also explain what problems, exactly, you are getting, and we'll have half a chance of helping you get started.

with a post as vague as that, no kidding support couldn't decifer if it was firmware related or not....

Re: Free Refund or Free Upgrade

I'm in the same boat as everyone else here I suppose. My HD stayed alive long enough to put wedding photos and such on it, and then became undetectable. For the past 6 months its been sitting quietly in the static bag it came in. But after going to http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931 and using the serial number utility at the bottom it confirmed that my drive was infact affected by the firmware issue, which by what the company was quoted saying, entitles me to free data recovery. I'm going to hold them to that, even if it does take awhile-- I've since replaced the HDD, but I'm willing to make peace with this if they make good on their part. Hope everything works out for the rest of you.

Surely, there are those out there who relied on their data 100x more whether it be for business purposes, but no matter what the contents of the hard drive, a consumer is supposed to be able to rely on the quality of a product endorsed and produced by a reputable company.

A company has two legs to stand on, the product being one and service being the other, and if the product becomes unstable their service must carry the load. Lets hope they're left with a leg to stand on.

Re: Why is there no lawsuit against Seagate yet?

Speaking of: you might want to look here

Me, I'm seriously thinking of small claims to recover the cost of getting the drive fixed localy. I dont want to get rich, I just want my darn photos and documents back - that's all. As soon as that happens, the seagate goes into the garbage, and I'm off to Western Digital for a new terrabite drive. . . .

Your link is broken.

I guess I just believe a company should be allowed to redeem itself on a case by case basis. And this case is they sent out a number of defective hard drives and now they have to make good on it. If they handle my issue in a way that pleases me, by keeping their world when they announced their resolution, then they have a satisfied customer. Sometimes it takes service recovery to show the true worth of a company, its employees, and its customers. With all the variables being human (tech agents, customer wants and needs and what satisfies them) its difficult to have a 100% approval. I'll be willing to give them a shot in resolving this for me, after all, I understand whats happened, now I just want to move on to the road to resolution.

*Customer satisfaction may vary

Re: Free Refund or Free Upgrade

nomoreSg: i will be discussing with seagate tech support tomorrow 2 more drives that are crashing, both of the SD15 firmware, sata drives. i will ask about your drive, being from a different country, and get back to you then. hold your horses.

superkoopa: follow the advice here if your drive is marked "affected": http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=ata_drives&message.id=9756

desslok: lmao. you make this forum worth returning to.
