Hard Drive failure on ST3500320NS Firmware update?

I have a failed drive that seems to power up, but does not recognize in the BIOS or on bootup.

It's on Firmware revision SN05.  I've read that this revision has known issues with powering on and powering off the drive and can lead to the drive showing the type of behavior it's showing right now.

So my question:  Is it possible to do a firmware update on this drive to SN06 to fix the issue?  What tools do I need?

So I'm guessing this is a no?  Does anyone have input on this particular problem?

If the drive still spins up, then you may be seeing the BSY bug.

Here are repair procedures for Seagate 7200.11 drives:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128807

See the following technical bulletin:

I don't know if the above procedures apply to your model. You may wish to consult with the data recovery experts at HDD Guru for confirmation:

In any case, Seagate may still be offering free data recovery services.

Try this mate, get the FW update, put it onto bootable media, go into your bios and hit default set up, come out and pray it recognises a drive so you can flash, other than that you will need to do a reprogram of the drive to get it working again.
