Good to hear the firmware update worked for you and so it seems alot of ES.2 users are upgrading without problems :smileyhappy:

Re: Have anyone has problem with ES2 ?

ST31000340NS (SN05) bought at Xmas 2008 is obvious to update and so is my 500 GB ES.2 (ST3500320NS, SN04) from March 2008.

But I've got two 1 TB ES.2 drives (ST31000340NS) with firmware SN03 (purchased in November 2007). Do you think I should update them as well?

Got another success case in my country

SN04 -> SN06 (His drive still works before the flash)

Flashed successfully without any problem and it works perfectly after the update.

And also got some performance improvement with SN06

Seagate tech support guys

You really did good jobs , you may have a deep sleep and sweet dreams now :smileytongue:

True, but better still, if they can start replying firmware request email.

I had send an email last Saturday and so far still waiting for their official reply... I'm not quite sure why the firmware is out but they seemed to be slow distributing it.

(The one I used to update my drive was downloaded from some other forums, figured I could fall back to AN05 in case anything goes wrong)

Re: Have anyone has problem with ES2 ?

I believe that only some of the firmware is officially "out", and there is such a backlog of emails (due to an email software glitch that came at THE worst time ever) that they want to get it all out there before they send out all the updates with exhaustive instructions in one big mass email to all who have requested firmware info. That is my understanding as of now. I'm really sorry for the delay, and I understand your frustration 100%.

So, Seagate has released a firmware update for the ES.2 drives, of which I have one - the 250GB one, according to this

 http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207963

But I cannot download it because I have to email them first? Why? I can download firmware for my other drives (7200.11) apparently. My drive has firmware SN04 on it.

I emailed discsupport and disksupport days ago .. (you have contradictory emails posted in different places) and I get no response. Seems like yet another awkwardness from Seagate.

Seriously going to give up buying Seagate I think.

Seagate Tech Support is working on collating all the firmware-related emails together and then sending out a catch-all for them. They are working on that as top priority, but the firmware has to be certified before they can do that. I am really sorry about the delay, but I am confident that they are working on it as fast as they can. As it stands now, though, I know they hope to have this all done by this afternoon, but I don't know if that is certain. Again, I'm very sorry.

I have a suggestion.

Go to whatever link(s) apply to your drive(s).

http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207969
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207963
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207957
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207951
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207975

And disksupport@seagate.com and discsupport@seagate.com are both valid email addresses. I checked because I saw that too. Thank you very much for mentioning it - I'd hate there to be invalid email addresses floating around out there!
Then in the top right corner, click on "Subscribe" and give it a valid email address. Thus, when those articles are updated, you will be notified.

Re: Have anyone has problem with ES2 ?

Ah, so it will be available for download eventually. That's good. Thanks for confirming the addresses both work too. Before on the KB articles they said 'in validation', so I figured it would just be able to be downloaded once it was done, and thought all were available now since the 7200.11 ones are out but for ES.2 we still needed to email someone.

Re: Have anyone has problem with ES2 ?

We've several ES.2 1TB drives in our fileservers. Some of them with SN04 (ST31000340NS), others with SN05.

I did send an email to discsupport three days ago (with Model-No, SN and firmware version), but I did't get any answer jet.

So I used the support chat to contact Seagate. The  technician said that these drives with SN04/05 firmware are not affected.

The KB article (http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207963) does't say these drives are affected. The firmware update just seems to be "recommended".

I don't want to update 48 drives. The drives are all connected to Adaptec RAID controllers, so that I have to remove drive by drive, connect it to a computer with a generic SATA-Interface, update it and reinstall it.

This means unacceptable downtime...

Do I have to update these drives? Can somebody confirm for sure that SN04 or SN05 is affected?
