Help for Barracuda 7200.7 HDD

Hi all, I have a barracuda 7200.7 HDD ST3160021A, it is seen from O.S. win7, but when I load files on it, the system goes in freeze and reboot, if I do a quick format or full it is ok. I have downloaded seatool and launched general quick test, it starts but after some seconds it tell me failed......
I want to upgrade firmware, but where do I find it???? thanks.....

Re: Help for Barracuda 7200.7 HDD

Hello Max.

Many things could be causing the problems you're having. Indeed, some of them, not relating to your hardrive at all!

It could be a quirk with the OS (as windows 7 is still being ironed out re:drivers), it could also be faulty hardware.

You say that you've run seatools, and that it hanged.

Was this seatools DOS? if not, you need to run Seatools DOS.

Running seatools from within your OS is far less stable than allowing it to run outside of windows.

To figure out whether or not your HDD actually has a prob - you need to do this. :smileyhappy:

Hello Max.

A Pentium III, 256MB RAM and 10GB HDD are needed to run Windows XP.
The power of 3 C64 was needed to fly to SPACE.
Something is wrong with our world...
And its called WINDOWS!

It looks to me like your drive may be stalling on bad sectors.

You can use a SMART utility such as HD Sentinel to get a report of the health status of your drive:

This article explains the SMART attributes:

A firmware upgrade, if it exists, will probably not make any difference.
