Help with cloning a 320GB hdd???

I've not seen this before so I hope someone who has can help?

I am upgrading a seagate 80gb hdd with a seagate 320gb.  Connecting the 320gb externally via a usb adapter I run Seatools and cone drive.  Everything is found just fine, I accept proportional copy and let it go.  It completes normally.

I install the new drive and the system (HP Pavillion DV1116 laptop) can't boot from it.  I remove it and connect again via usb and it see it just fine.

With the drive external I start Win repair console and run fixboot and fixmbr successfully to this drive.  Still it will not boot.  In my bios I have the native sata support turned off.

Anyone seen this before and if so how does one get around it?

Thanks

If you've got to Fixmbr already you've probably messed the O/S up to the extent it will need formatting and reloading, there are methods but unless you can read and speak latin it will probably just tie you up in a knot and waste 3 more days of your time..

However you could try this, insert the Windows CD in and run the recovery console and do a system repair.

I'd check your lappy supports larger drives as well.

Re: Help with cloning a 320GB hdd???

Can your BIOS see your new drive when installed internally?

How far into the boot process does your new drive go, if at all?

What other options do you have in your BIOS setup?

Does your drive have a Recovery partition?

Could we see the partition tables and boot sectors of both drives with Microsoft's Sector Inspector?

Extract the above archive to the one folder and execute the SIrun.bat file. The procedure will generate a report file named SIout.txt which you can then upload to a file sharing service so that we can examine it.
