Hi!
Question: Where can I get the instructions for upgrading the firmware? (I got the ISO from the seagate site, but am unable to find isntructions except to boot from the ISO)
Details/History:
I had chatted with a Seagate support agent about upgrading the firmware on my (3x) ST3500320AS on my RAID 5 array (ICH10R / X58 chipset/Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit).
I was directed to http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/
and I got the .iso for my drive by using this link.
I was instructed to remove each drive from the array, and to take them over to another computer and update the firmware one by one and then, put the drives back in the original computer (to avoid data loss and to avoid the need to reinstall any software/OS)
Where can I find the instructions on how to perform the actual firmware update? (I know how to burn the ISO and how to boot from it, but if possible, I would like to know what the menu options are once I boot from this ISO - any link to a KB article with screen prints would be awesome
I chatted with a support agent Matt C (not very helpful) who responded
Matt C.: There should have been a text file that was downloaded with the firmware ISO.
Matt C.: that explains everything.
<me>: the link only downloaded the ISO
<me>: the instructions sent me to http://support.seagate.com/firmware/MooseDT-SD1A-2
Matt C.: I'm aftraid that article is all that is available at the moment. but the pricess is pretty easy. even if you've never done it before
Matt C.: It pretty much runs itself once you boot to the CD.
<me>: Matt, I am unable to get that article - the link provided at the KB article only gets me the ISO - can you send me the link to the article?
Matt C.: there is no article available that will walk you through the process.
Thank you for using Seagate products. You may now close this window.
Your session has ended. You may now close this window. ![]()
(So, he starts off by saying that there is a text file that should get downloaded, but later says that there is no article available, and ends the session abruptly - HUH?)
Any guidance/links would be appreciated!
Thanks ![]()

Hi Alan,
Thank you for addressing this post. I don't have a problem burning the image - but am unsure of what to expect when I boot my PC with this ISO - and how to proceed with the actual firmware update once I've booted with this CD. (I've flashed BIOS in the past for motherboards and know that the sequence needs to be followed exactly to avoid ending up with a dead motherboard - I've never updated the firmware on a drive in the past and so, wanted to get instructions on the actual update process).
Also, does it matter whether I have the 1.5Gbps jumper installed or not (when I update the firmware) ?
Any pointers / suggestions would be appreciated ![]()

To the Post of jj14... The text file is in the .iso, so when You burn the .iso the file is included on the CD.
I have also notice that the drive failure seems to happen quicker if the drive is near full capacity....
