Info on new 3TB Drive - ST3000DM001-1CH1

[ Edited ]

Just received a new 3TB from Amazon and it  is different from all my other ST3000DM001-9YN1. It has a model number ST3000DM001-1CH1 with firmware CC43

I see that when I opened the bag it said that it was made in China, cant remember where the others were built. Also noticed that the warranty check shows one year.

Any info on the drive would be appreciated is it as good as my others or should i return it.??

I can research the difference for you. If you want me to do this, please send me each drive's serial number via private message on here and I'd be glad to find out for you.

Hi if it is a oem drive only in antistatic bag. Seagate has put most oem drives to one year warranty.

Re: Info on new 3TB Drive - ST3000DM001-1CH1

is there any information on this model of the ST3000DM001 by now?

I also just unpacked a ST3000DM001-1CH166 (warrenty check: 2 years) with Firmware CC43. In this German forum s.o. states that this drive cannot be updated to the CC4H firmware found here http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651en

I'd still be interested in knowing the difference between this and the (older?) 9YN1 models as I just bought 4 of those and could still return them if his iteration is superior.

Re: Info on new 3TB Drive - ST3000DM001-1CH1

I can now confirm that the firmware cannot be updated to CC4H. It is just skipped stating that the update does not match the drive.

Also checking for updates with Seagate's drivedetect showed no available updates.

FYI, the reason that your drive doesn't qualify for an update is that it doesn't match the list of suitable candidates in the configuration file:

Re: Info on new 3TB Drive - ST3000DM001-1CH1

Unfortunately"Asktheleaf" gave me no information on this drive only info i got was that the drives can be upgraded to CC4H firmware. However it would appear that this new drive cannot as per post from fzabkar.

What I really want to know is what is different with this drive (1CH1), and is it going to cause me problems in a 8 bay NAS if all the other drives are 9YN1 standard.

@KarlB

Hi, I have a 5-Bay NAS with 4 Seagate´s ST3000DM001- 9YN Harddisks and now I´ve bought 1 HDD with the 1CH1 Productnumber.

Did the constellation cause any problems to your RAID?

I use a RAID 5. Best regards

Re: Info on new 3TB Drive - ST3000DM001-1CH1

So what's the final word on the ICH166 vs.  9YN166 and the f/w? 43 vs. 4H.

I just ordered a batch of fives drives -- all ICH166 with f/w;CC43. Is it necessary to upgrade? Should I stick with this batch or ask for another?
