New ST3000DM001's both reporting Short DST fail

[ Edited ]

Well then, I thought I had one bad drive, but it looks like possibly two now. From what I've been reading on these forums the SMART reporting for these drives is not giving accurate results for certain things... I believe this is how a DST determines drives are bad, so possibly Seatools is not giving me good information, but a DST failure is not something to ignore.

So, here is what I have: 1 3tb drive was successfully long formatted & holds data so far. The 2nd drive will not format (it was also making that odd beepish thing which was mostly resolved with updating the firmware). Drive will get to ~20-60% formatted before windows does the device disconnected beep & the drive no longer appears in windows. A reboot will have the drive show up again (it always shows when booting & in the bios). A short format allows the drive to be used, but when transfering data to it, it will eventually disappear as well. Both drives are connected via a 6gb/s seta cable the two 6gb/s ports on my mobo. What I have not tried yet: Connect them to 3gb/s sata ports & run tests again Update motherboard firmware (it's an Asus RoG3 so it's fairly new) and run tests again

Recommendations?

Edit:

[Edited: Removed personal information per the community rules and regulations.] - Serial number not detected, SeaTools did fail the drive -- maybe not so critical of an error after all...

Drive detect does show the serial #'s of the drives

Hrm I thought that seatools error report for cannot find serial # was generic... as it could not find the serial # it cannot contain any personal information.

Ah, as per here it's a generic code: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatools/seatools-test-codes.html

Hi,

replacement the HD as soon as possible and do not trust Seatool, the seatool will say that the HD is in perfect condition, until one day turn on the computer and no longer works.

Replacement the HD is the only solution, as many times as necessary until you send an HD without problems.

Do not be fooled.
