seagate detects my drive as 'possibly defective' with serial number checker, but as it has a LC15 firmware, I can't use firmware update procedure, as only works on s* series.
what can I do to be sure I don't miss my tb of data?

I have the same problem. According to the VAS, I must return the hard drive (ST31000333AS LC15).
