**bleep** i didn't even think about weather it was read or write. The box just says Transfer rate so i'm going to assume it's write speed. To be sure however i'll go grab another bench program and run a better test for you.

This thread has gone astray to a significant extent. Let me be very clear.
There is a firmware update available for certain drives only, because the issue has been isolated to a small group of drives and in no others.
Seagate Technical Support agents know how to handle any request for firmware, what drives are affected, how to identify them, and what questions to ask. You must contact Seagate Technical Support, by email or by phone, NOT by chat, to obtain information about it and to obtain the update.
We have already been notified that at least one hard drive has been rendered inoperable, destroyed, by an improper firmware update. This is why this is necessary.
