I have a  problem with two seagate 7200.11 320gb which I tryed to connect to a asus rampage formula (Intel ICH9R controller) in raid0, to install win vista 32 bit.

At the first boot and later the controller can't create the array, even if the hard disks appear working.
I tryed changing sata port on motherboard, changing power supply connector with no good result.
With the seatools from dos I wasn't able to pass short or long test for each drive.

Installing windows (vista or xp) individually on each drive was possible, but when I tryed to connect the second one, the system locks without system boot.

I've updated the bios, I used the raid driver for windows, but I still have problems (one of the drives shows a failure in SMART parameters and the other doesn't let me boot the system). By the way I tryed my motherboard with another couple of segate drives and it was ok.

Has anyone something to suggest me? I think I will try RMA procedure with seagate.

I'd like to add that Seagate sent me a new couple of drives, and this time I was able to install Vista on the raid 0 array.
Everything seemed to work well, but when I connected again the third disk with data to a sata connector the system wasn't able to start and even the new drives now appears to be corrupted and they don't work neither in raid, nor stand-alone.

I'm waiting for a reply from seagate, because I don't know if a new RMA will solve the issue..

Kind of having the same problem. I've tried to use the 7200.11 drives in a raid0 and raid5 but benchmarks gave me strange results.(dips where the drive would not do anything for a second or so) I then realized the disks itself had problems, using the raid controller or not. So I'm on my 6th 7200.11 500Gb drive now(bought two returned twice), all failing either at seatools for dos test, or s.m.a.r.t, or after a frew days in vista. Just seems like bad quality drives to me. I've got an 7200.10 from before, and it has been running for 6 months without problems in raid 0.  I've got an dell xps 7200 with nvidia nforce chipset. The sata controller is nvidia  MCP55

I'm getting sick of this, i might just throw them away.

I'm very sorry for you..

I've spent some months to set up my new pc with those drives.

The only difference between us is that only one of my drives reported SMART error. It seems to me that the others has been in some way corrupted by my raid controller.

However seagate has sent me a new pair of drives and this time they worked in raid as I wanted. 

Unfortunately I've heard about many people with the need to send back broken drives.

The only thing I can suggest to you is to retry the RMA procedure and not to use the drives in raid, if not necessary.  I know that it will cost to you time and money, but I hate buying something that I can't use!
