Raid Problems with 7200.12 drives

Hi,

  I am having problems with Raid 0 with two new 500gb 7200.12 drives, both are the same model number, ST3500418AS, and firmware (which i can dig out if necessary).

 

My Raid 0 array is running on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DSP3 motherboard in ports 0 and 1.

 

What happens is that, every week or two, Intel Matrix Storage Manager reports Port 1 (and its always port 1) as having write errors and error marks it. When i look at the report it shows that the 7200.12 in port one is now a Generation 1 i.e. SATA 1 drive.

 

Port 0 still shows the 7200.12 as a Generation 2 (SATA II) drive.

 

If i then clear the error mark on the drive and reboot it comes back up as a Generation 2 drive.

 

But why does it drop down to a Generation 1 drive?  

 

NOTE:- I AM RUNNING VERSION 8.8 of the Intel MSM NOT 8.9....

Not running 8.9 noted.

 

Are you overclocking?

 

Are the drives being cooled?

 

BIOS up to date?

 

Change power connector with another from the PSU (also what PSU your running?) and change SATA cable.

No overclocking, the drives are not cooled but they are also seperated in their own "cage" in my Lian Li case by around an inch and nothing else is arond them.

 

BIOS is uptodate on the board (F8).

 

The PSU is a nearly new i.e. Less than 3 month old Enermax Pro82+ 425W power supply, each hard drive has its own dedicated feed (im running a single Ati 4650 and a Core 2 Duo, nothing too power hungry)

 

I did just replace the SATA cable to Port 1 last night as im running out of ideas, so thats a grey area at this moment in time.

 

Incidentally, i originally did have MSM 8.9 installed and downgraded to MSM 8.8 due to errors reported elsewhere AND have since had the issue, however im not sure how to check to be 100% sure that the driver in use is the 8.8 one and not the 8.9 one as looking around here i've seen people say they have ran 8.8 but ended up with MSM at 8.8 but the driver still at another version.

 

Can somebody explain how to check?
