ST1000DM003 maximum read speed 2MB/s in HDTune after cold boot.

[ Edited ]

I recently purchased 1TB ST1000DM003 (SN: -- edited --) seagate HDD and I have a problem. After turning on my sistem the pc is very very slow. Windows 7 struggles to load. When I check HDD read speed in hd tune there are 2 MB/s maxim read speeds. Every time when HDD is cold and I turn my pc on after a long period of shut down time I have this issue.

After several reboots, the hard drive becomes to normally. It has CC46 firmware.

Also, sometimes I am hearing a click from the hard drive. Is that normal or is a malfunction?.

I have only one year limited warranty from my retailer for this HDD.

Please give me a sollution for this problem.

As there's an uncorrectable sector you should apply for a warranty change.

I think you've had a delayed write failure at some time, this results in two ways, 1 it won't boot and you get a message, and 2 it boots very slowly and gives a light click as you get near to the welcome screen, if you re-format it and do a fresh install your problem should go and all will be normal again, hth.

Thank you for reply. I've updated to  latest firmware (CC4C). I formated and I did a fresh install and have the same problem. When I turned on my pc this morning same problem. Very low HDD read speed shown in pictures below.

Error seek rate is highter that yesterday. Should i send back and ask for another HDD??

only 55% health status in hddlife pro when my 8 years old seagate  has 80% health status?

On newer seagate drives those smart numbers also keep running counts of seeks/reads and not just errors. They will constantly go up from regular usage even without errors. So those numbers may not be an indicator something is wrong.

Heavy disk access whlie running a test could potentially give you test numbers like that too.

Can you be sure nothing was accessing the disk when you ran your test?

If you are low on ram and your page file is on the drive that would also slow it down also.

If you want a quick check fix, re-format the drive, I suspect you may well be loaded up with spy/mal/trojans

Re: ST1000DM003 maximum read speed 2MB/s in HDTune after cold boot.

I'm having the same problem, but it never warms up :smileysad:.

At first when I installed winXP i tried to format it quick, but it failed, then I formatet it slow and ir failed, then it begin to work but had problems during installation, and at last had a clean, no errors, install.

I partitioned 250 GB Boot, and the rest for storage, it gets really slow on start up and to open applications/games/files, but once the game is loaded ir runs fine, just when it needs to load again it's a real pain.

Re: ST1000DM003 maximum read speed 2MB/s in HDTune after cold boot.

Just installed the new firmware (CC4C) and it works like a charm, I'm posting tomorrow night to see if the booting and startup issues disappear. But this far it helped me a bunch :smileyhappy:

Brought my good old Pentium 4 3.2 GHz  back to life hehe.
