Is there any estimated cost for "data recovery" in this particular issue?  Have to decide if those photos are too expensive to buy back. I'm pretty pleased with Seagates way to handle this incident (you didn't pick up my sarcasm?)

Please Seagate pimp my HDD, wait - what?

Please Seagate fix, reply or even 'meh' to this "not a problem".

Unfortunately if the drive is faulty you'll probably need to pay the recovery cost if you want your stuff back.

Unless it IS a firmware issue and some clever sod comes up with a fix like the 7200.11s (or it's an easy hardware fix)

Whatever happens, I suggest you learn how to do backups in future. Drives can and will die. Any drive can die say within a week of purchase, that's nothing new.

If you entrust all your data to one drive without a backup, you are asking for trouble. That's just not a sensible thing to do no matter what drive you have.

I'm not trying to be harsh, it's just the simple truth :smileysad:

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

I always opt for a big PSU and I wonder if the machine with issues has adequate power.

Old machines often come with crud power supplies, which I routinely have to replace in client machines.

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

hi, just saw this thread after over 3 hours of looking for a solution to this problem.

just bought a ST2000DL003, P/N: 9VT166 - 301, F/W CC32 DATE 12046

Placed it into my brand new readynas NV+ and after getting to 48.7% complete in setting up i get a load of beeping sounds.

tried the drive on my pc and nothing, bios doesnt recognise the drive so cant test it on sea tools.

returning to Scan.co.uk to get a different drive as this once clearly has issues, wish i'd seen this before buying.

are the forum admins still going to try and say this is a bios issue? this drive is on the compatibilty list for the NV+, I think there is just an issue with this drive.

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

hi every body

1st i apologize like some of your people becuase english is not my spoken / written language.

I have bought 2 2tb seagate st2000DL003 3 month ago with firm ware of cc32 .

I have not any problemm since last week that i attach anothe seagate h.d.d to my Pc because that hard disk does not recognized at bios !

after i attach that hard disk to my pc , i sea that the other disk ( 1tb seagate baracuda 12 ) has only 31.5mb!! yes it is so funny !!

whhen i try some hard disk manage like o&o or Acronis 11 , this soft ware shows that the disk has only 31.5 mb of disk space !!

after that when I restart my PC to bootup with one another partition manager with name of Paragon partition manager I see my 2 hard disk shown 0mb on size and LBA 0 , and not work !

I was so scared .

I forgot to tell you that I work for a pc hardware solution center for about 10 years and I have seen alot of hard Problem , bios problem and ... etc .

after I see this problem I displug the 1 tb hard disk !

after that when I turn on the PC it found my hard disks ( with their size 2000.5 gb )

and my pc workk for about one ek till now without an problem !

my mobo has UEFI bios the may be it is true that this problem is bios problem but my all of 3 hard drives ( 2 , 2tb hard drives and 1 , 1tb hard drive ) is changed !

when I attach this to another mobo I see that in bios of the mainboard on the part of size pf the disk

it showthis :

size : 2000.5gbST2000DL003 ( (but before last week that was 2000.5 GB ), without any endnote ) !

this is seagate problem !maybe virus or firmware !

I have a good news for you , I do one thing and it answered to other 1tb seagate disk and i can use that again and backup the data )

Only when I use paragon disk manager manager ( I use version 9 ) as a boot ( other program that I say above is not recognized the 1tb hard disk ) , it shows me that the drive has 932gb on size and when I see the partitione size I see very amazing and confusing thing . I explained that !

c : 785 gb size without any another information

d: 285 gb size  without any another information

e: 453 gb size without any another information

f : 367 gb sie without any another information

g: 685 gb size without any another information

h : like above

when You sum the partitions size you see that the partitione has more than 3tb ! this is the problem that I dont see in any h.d,d forums in this week

I deleted all of the partitions .after that the bios shows the size of the disk !

I use another disk that has windows XP on it and I use acronis recovery expert , then I choose manual recovery and then choose the 1tb seagate and after that complete scan and finally after 4 hours of scanning it found my drives and I can backup that data !

the hard 1 tb hard disk is work fine till I attached it to anothe mobo !

the you must run the paragon disk manager again but this time you dont need to do any thing and when it shows the partition you see thatt it hows you right size and free spaces !

I do'nt know what is the problem but this problem is the worst problem of my 10 years of working to find such as thease problem !

i hope that it help to you to backup your data as soon as you can .

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

I have read it as best I can, and I appreciate it's as hard for you to write it as it is for me to read it :smileywink:

I notice you have multiple partition's on the drive and when you cleaned them off everything seemed to go back to normal?

In future, ditch all those programs you are using and download Discwizard, this is a Seagate program and will properly and easily set up multiple partitions, I think half of your problems are caused by over complication.

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

hi Mr. Cantbecanit

excuseme  for my complicated explaning .

I know I explained that very bad .but in all of my explanation I want to tell  3 things.

I want to say them one by one .

1- I say that I think this is firmware  / virus problem .

if you/ every body has this problem , 1st you can use paragon partition manager( PPM)  ( not seagate utility and only this utility , i don't know why but just  this utility work  ).

then  you can take backup from your data , because after running the PPM on boot ( ppm bootable) it shows the seagate hard disk problem and after that , you can restart your computer and use your data ,I insert some image here for better explanation .

I know this is unbelievable but it is true ,

2-I never seen such as this problem since last thursday .

3-the UEFI bios ( asrock 890gx pro3 mobo) recognize my 2 hard disks very well ! but other bioses from another mainboards ( such as asus mobo , asrock , msi , gigabyte or ....) are not recognize my 2hard disks well  and they show 0mb on size of the disk and when I did 1st step, they recognized the disks . ! ( like 1tb hard disk that I attached the pictures)

I attached   one .jpg file here that includes 5 .jpg files.

pic no.1 shows one 250 gb maxtor that is produced on 2007

pic no. 2 shows the 2nd hard (1tb hard ) that is the beginer of all problems for me last week . you see the specs that bios knows them .

after this I use the bootable ppm, I show the specs on this program in pic no.3

in pic no.4 you can see the bios detecting of the 1tb hard disk , this photo is taken in about 2 minutes after pic no.2 ,

in pic no. 5 I show the problem , because that part must not be there and my hard disk after the problem is show this part on old mother board bios .

I think this is better than my last explanation .

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

How can I update my CC32 drive to CC3C? I have a problem of my drive clicking while idle and maybe the firmware will fix it?

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

I found the Windows firmware update fails here and there. So I suggest using the ISO image and burn that to a CD/DVD and then use that to upload the firmware.

Check the sticky for firmware update links

The only update available seems to be the older CC32 :smileysad:

Re: ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green not detected at BIOS

The firmware seems to vary from model to model so use the latest for your disk
