Hello,
I just bought here in Brazil a ST3000DM001. I received it yesterday, succesfully upgraded the firmware to the latest version (CC4H) offered but I noticed a strange behaviour of the drive under windows 7. The diskmgmt.msc MMC window hangs for seconds when I try to access it in order to format the drive. Despite this annoying behaviour, I could create a GPT partition and format the drive as NTFS quick.
After the formatting I tried testing with the latest Seatools version. It fails Short DST tests almost in a second with A89596EC code.
I tried generic short and generic long tests and the drive passes it with flying colors.
I'm using Intel's 3930K processor, Asus P9X79 WS motherboard, no overclocking and the machine has 64GB RAM stable and tested under linpack for more than 32 hours. The computer uses a Corsair HX850W power supply and is protected by an APC SUA1500-BR online UPS.
Intel Rapid Storage Enterprise Drivers version 3.2.0.1116 are installed. My chipset is Intel C600 series. I can also test the drive under AMD's 890FX chipset if you need it.
I can walk one block and deliver this drive to Seagate's RMA here, that's no problem for me, but I'm now waiting for two 2TB failed drives that I sent to RMA this month. I never had this kind of failure rate with Seagate, specially that we're not talking about a large enterprise customer which buys a lot of drives.
I hope that Seagate's support can help me with this issue.
