Just looking for some help. I have 2 ST3000DM001's. One is an OEM and the other is a freeagent pull. I have them connected to a LSI 9260-8i (actually an IBM Megaraid M5014 (rebrand)). One drive has a CC47 and the other has a CC94. The CC47 works great on the Raid controller. The CC94 does not. It will only register as a 3.0GB/S device and will be detected as failed within a few reboots. When I hook the drive up directly to the motherboard controller, I get no sign of failure. The drive seem to perform great and the smart data shows no issues. I started to think that it must be the firmware but there does not seem to be an upgrade path for that CC94 firmware. I tried forcing a firmware update to a CC4C but that failed. Can anyone please help me? Is there a way I can get this drive to work with the raid controller?

Is the one thats stuck on Sata2 from the FA? if so I have a 3TB that is the same, these drives are 3GB/s drives probably due to the fact they weren't going to go through a sata port, if it was sold to you as a 6GB/s drive then you should be able to return it if you wish to to the re-seller.

The one that sucks, FW CC94, actually connects to my motherboard at 6.0GB/s and seems to run fine. It is only when it is connected to the raid card that there is a problem. The raid software gives a warning about not able to connect to the device at the detected speed.
Could it be a firmware issue. Is there anyway to upgrade a CC94?

I'd suspect the raid card myself, possibly faulty or possibly only supports one drive to run @ 6GB/s.

I dont think the issue is fully the raid controller (although it might be a bit picky). I have had many different drive models attached to this raid controller and never had a problem. I did some googling and found someone having a similar issue:

All of the CC94 and CC96 firmwares were incorrectly detected while the drives with the CC4C were correctly detected. Does anyone from seagate know if there is going to be a new firmware release for a CC94 drive?

It's worth a check to see tbh, you won't be the first person to have a bad raid card I can assure you, how is it connected to the MB, pci-e or simply pci, maybe swapping it to another slot will sort it, I've seen cards of all sorts play up if they don't like the slot they are in, one recommendation iirc reading some years ago was with a tv card and it needed to be as far away from the graphic card as possible, locating it next to it always caused issues, hth.
p.s I would check back some time later regarding FW, but I don't think it's your problem though, I take it you have only 4 sata ports on the board and thats why you are using the card?

Hello,
I have CC4C on 4 of my drives connected to an LSI controller - just set them up today. They are connecting at 6GB so it is probably the firmware.
I have no idea what is the latest firmware as Seagate makes it pain just to get.
I can tell you that you should back up often. I had a few connected to a plain old IDE controller that works great with other drives but I'm getting corruption on the ST30000dm001 discs. The other seagate drives attached to the same controller work fine (and have for a couple of years).
I went to the forsaken download page t put in my SN and model number even though seatools already detects it - not sure why it can't just download the latest firmware as well. Even though I have 4 different firmware versions on my 8 ST3000DM001 drives, it says there is no firmware update. How could there be no firmware update - surely 4 different versions for a relatively new drive model can't all be the latest.

Does anyone happen to know what the latest firmware is for the ST30000dm001?
