My 1T Barraguda crashed yesterday and bios is no longer able to detect it.

The drive spins but that's all.

Time for firmware update?

If the BIOS can't detect your drive, then you won't be able to apply a firmware update until you fix it.

Seagate were at one time offering free data recovery services for drives affected by the bug. Perhaps that is still the case.

I checked with the serial number check utility and according to there is no update available for my disk (S/N: 9TE0TNAS).

If this firmware bug didn't killed my disk then what?

I recall a recent thread where a person was told by Seagate Support that his drive was not affected by the bug, yet he was able to repair it using the procedure I linked to previously.

Even if the procedure does not work for you, at least the drive's MCU may respond with a message such as "LEDnnnnn", in which case you could ask the data recovery experts at HDD Guru for advice:

Are you sure it's SD15?

I ask because I thought that one was for 500 gig drives.

If it is SD15 it is a bugged FW and will require a flash.
