Re: ST31000340AS firmware sd15

[ Edited ]

I know I dont speak for everyone here but in my opinion the next drives i get which will be for back up purposes would be WD drives.

Sorry seagate but if i were to buy another seagate drive i would have to flash it and i dont want keep on doing that.

i feel the same way,  after this mess, i'm not bying any more seagate disk's for a while..

Re: ST31000340AS firmware sd15

This is very poor support from Seagte. I have a ST3750330AS with firmware SD15 and I am unable to udpate the firmware because it says it expects a ST3750330AS (which I have). Whom ever made this firware update should be killed. I am not buying seagate again.

Currently, very unimpressed. I opened a case Friday and as I did not get a reply in 24 hours I rang today to find out the status of my case. The support person I spoke to said she would send me a link to the solution and closed my case. Problem is the link is to the file that has been withdrawn, so no help whatsoever.

I have reopened the case and complained about lack of contact within 24 hrs (as promised) and sending me a link which could not resolve the problem.

So Seasgate drives are out 100% and I will use WD drives fom now on.  I am just about to recommend drive types for some PC's  to be built and that spec will now be WD, not seagate.  I dont mind so much a manufacturer having a problem, but I think the way Seagate have handled this is pathetic, and very unprofessional.

And yes, I am angry....

Regards  all.....

good luck. the 24 hour response time is a marketing scam. You have to wait at least 2-3 weeks if you want a response.

So far so good and no issues with the drive. I dont really notice any speed issues but then again im not like timing my hard drive on how long it takes to click on a folder or anything but its the same quickness as it once was.

Happy to hear that you got it working - at least somebody did. Btw, a big thanks goes to you, Ant and Fatlip for keeping the thread alive - I've been watching the issue for a few days now, but I was not able to login to the forum (my account didn't work).

I have a three weeks old ST31000333AS with SD35 (s/n 5TE0EAWM), so I still have to wait and see if it's affected ... hopefully it's not.

I was a long-time user, supporter and recommender of Seagate drives (8+ years) ... and I'm afraid that I have to agree with you. This fiasco forced me to really consider using a NAS solution with RAID 1 or RAID 6, if possible with combined drives (i.e. Samsung+WD) ... it seems that one cannot rely on the quality of drives that we saw a few years ago.

Btw, I still have some faith in Seagate ... let's see how they manage to resolve this.

Re: ST31000340AS firmware sd15

do NOT go through the firmware update as it will make your drive completely DEAD!

I now have a brick in my hand and Seagate wouldn't response for two days to my email.

Re: ST31000340AS firmware sd15

Seagate Tech Support is working on collating all the firmware-related emails together and then sending out a catch-all for them.  That is hopefully why your case disappeared.   They are working on that as top priority, but the firmware has to be certified before they can do that.  I am really sorry about the delay, but I am confident that they are working on it as fast as they can.  As it stands now, though, I know they hope to have this all done by this afternoon, but I don't know if that is certain.  Again, I'm very sorry.

Re: ST31000340AS firmware sd15

Well it would be nice if Seagate sent everyone a short email explaining the (slow) progress.

Any manufacturer can have problems, it's the way they respond and fix the problems that is important. I would rate Seagates handling of this problem as very poor to put it politely.

And AlanM, nothing personal, but Seagate saying sorry doesn'e help very much!
