ST31500341AS - firmware required please

I'm logging this to express my utter disappointment with Seagate support.  I bought 4 of these 1.5TB drives, only to bump into the same issue that every has faced, namely the "hanging" issue which requires a new firmware.

Trying to do the right thing, I log a case, #0084187.  It specifically mentions model, serial, existing firmware CC1G (and I know I need CC1H) and the problem faced with an extract from dmesg.

Almost 2 weeks later, still no response to the case.

Anybody propose what I'm supposed to do next?  Do an international call to Seagate support, hold on for an hour, then send them the bill?

Ridiculous... sorry for the rant, but having worked for vendors before, I know that at the very least, standard KPIs for support should have an initial response time target (and no, the automatic response that you have posted a case doesn't count!).

Re: ST31500341AS - firmware required please

Same problem here friend.

Mod suggested that we call seagate support. Don't know about you know but I prefer to just be able to download updates to problems caused by the manufacture... not jump through hoop.

Calling support did not resolve this for me; they never emailed me the information like they said they would. I'm going to try again but don't have much faith in Seagate to come through.

Probably just going to return drive and buy a WD.

I have the same drive as you ST31500341AS, but mine is with firmware CC1H, do you know for sure if this is good firmware for it?  I have had no luck with support and would like to know before installing the drive.

[ Edited ]

i do also have a "ST31500341AS" with firmware version "CC1H".

I have run all tests, all passed.

I have yet not had the opportunity to test the drive for a long period, just installed it, but sometimes i hear "funny" noises coming from the drive.

Just happens to me this ?

Re: ST31500341AS - firmware required please

Does anyone have the CC1H firmware?

Does this firmware solve the problem?

Its just a hard drive. They have been making them for years. All they did was add 0.5TB and thety dont know how to do this without having 100's of thousands of drives returned. What am I missing?

*** DO NOT *** apply this firmware to drives currently running firmware SDxx *** DO NOT ***

Judging from other forum posts, firmware CC1J is also in the field.  I have no idea whether it's available or not.  I just happened to find the CC1H firmware by doing a web search.

Re: ST31500341AS - firmware required please

As far as my research tells me, the CC1H firmware is good.  I still haven't received a response from Seagate to my case, despite adding 3 comments so far asking for a response.

I will have to hunt for the CC1H firmware "illegally" then, since there's no response through official channels, and log an official complaint.

I think this is the last time I buy anything from seagate/maxtor.

Re: ST31500341AS - firmware required please

Any ideas what I can do, and why the heck I write backwards on this forum?

My drive seems to have hung while in the format process..... Each time it looks as though it had hung at 73% through the format process..

Re: ST31500341AS - firmware required please

I see telling you I found the firmware update on the web is okay, but using the name of a peer-to-peer protocol in connection with finding the firmware is not okay. :smileysurprised: Fair enough. :smileyhappy:  I hope you find it yourself, or contact Seagate technical support and receive a download certificate from them.
