Re: ST3500320AS - SMART failure

Hi, i have a drive that is spinning normal but that is not seen in BIOS or by the system. First i thought that the PCB was damaged, but the company where i wanted to purchase a new PCB told me that it porbably was not the PCB but a firmware issue. He provided me with information how to tackle that problem, but it did not work out =>

http://www.mapleleafmountain.com/seagatebrick.html I succeeded in assembling the recovery setup and tried to get to the data of the seagatedrive. I can access the different levels, but when it comes to the SMART erase command N1 i get after a couple of seconds the message "Unable to load Diag Overlay". I ignored that message and proceeded further to the regeneration of the partitions.

This resulted in the follwing error messages:

Error 1008 SETSEC 0000500E Process defect list error R/W sense 00000002, R/W error 841C0087, List offset 0000000, File rror 00000001

 F3 T>

Has someone any idea how i can salvage the data on this drive?

best regards

Re: ST3500320AS - SMART failure

AIUI, Seagate are still offering free data recovery for users of 7200.11 drives that have been bricked by the BSY bug.

What do you see when the drive first powers up? How does it respond to the Ctrl-L sign-on command?
