Hello, comrades! I have an ST500DM002 HDD and ASUS M2N motherboard with nForce 6100-430 MCP chipset. So I have a SATA III HDD and a SATA 2 controller. I use my ST500DM002 HDD for 2 months already and for a couple of days I discovered that my Windows XP SP3 freezes (in boot and work processes) for a few minutes (up to 5-10 min). At the same time my ubuntu 12.04 works in a normal way and does not seem to freeze (at any rate now).
After that I found out #188 Command Timeout attribute in SMART table increased by 2 approx. a month ago. And now it equals to 000200020004. This means that Windows freezes by the HDD cause, I think.
Now my Windows works for a several hours without freezes (after waiting much time and rebooting my computer many times too). But I think the problem isn't solved yet.
I think I should downgrade my HDD to SATA 2 mode, shouldn't I? How can I do this (which pins should I unite)? Possibly you have any other suggestions about the case?
Appendix. Here's the SMART table.
Thanks in advance!
