Hi,
I'd like to share with You smart readings of my 7 days old mmentus 5400.3 160 GB (perpendicular- ATA) drive. It seems there are no problems, but it has this clicking issue -constantly parking heads and it is not as inaudible as in i.e. samsung quiet drives.

So my question is - 01 Raw Error Rate 5352380 for 95 hours of working is it normal for perpendicular disk?
Also another errors reported by smart are at high values in comparison to my 2.5 year old samsung spinpoint 80gb. I have just installed windows xp on it, used it by a week, and copied into the drive about 20GB of data from desktop pc by 2,5-3,5 inch adapter (like in USB-2,5 " hdd cases).
And why the heck the clicking noise when parking heads, and this bastxxxrd parks it almost all the time when idle is so annoying in the drive that maybe is a little out of date as it is PATA, but my notebook accepts only pata or sata (oldest ver.)?????????
Samsungs are a way quieter!
Another thing - I have discovered that If You dont want seagate drive, like mine, to go mad into constant parking heads - behaviour -(maybe it is for safety purposes -to avoid hitting surface) run in background HDtune 2.55 (its free) diagnostic tool for hdds. But one should consider one thing - you better dont walk with the drive that heads are not parked, because risk of hitting surface is increasing(it leads to badsectors). But also constant parking heads make heads more and more "worn" and in the effect one day drive may die.. sooner than we could expected. ( I have heard that 600 000 load/unload cycles are median "death date".

Ok but I have run seatools bootable cd just before formatting and partitioning drive and it passed the tests. It may be this clicking sound of parking heads I have heard about, but will it go away after some period of time? or will be present all time?( heave heard hdd may learn how to operate in first period ). It happens only when idle.
Mhdd - download is also a very good low level diagnostic software.
