Seagate 320GB PATA no longer will accept set capacity

My 1 year old 320GB PATA drive that is been installed into an older system that will only see 32 GB upon boot was successfully changed to a 32 Gb drive with seatool for dos (after many tries with the same failoure). But it will not change back to 320GB with the same tool, the tool reports an error called SETEXTMAXADDRESS(numbers) failed Please make sure the drive is power cycled. This was tried on multiple computers to attempt to reset the drive capacity with multiple reboots (to cycle the power) and still no go. Anyone has a clue what is happening, i think that it was because the firmware went bad, but unsure if this is the case or if there could be other possibility like the interface is broken?
