Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 not detected but spins

Its seems like I am experiencing a similar issue to the one that affected the older 7200.11 drives. This Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 drive after two year suddenly is not being detected. It power up and I can hear it spinning. I kinda hear it the heads engaging on boot up for a second but then just a quiet spinning of the platter. The POST screen then says "Primary drive 0 not found" So I took the drive out and hooked it up to a Sata to USB adapter and connected it to a working computer. The only thing that gets detected in the Device Manager under Disk Drives is "USB Device". It never identifies the drive. Its simply not being detected. The drive continues to quietly spin. I thought it could be the PCB but I am feeling a bit uncertain with everything I read so far. What are the chances a PSB swap will solve the problem? And what are the chances that DIY LBA fix thing would work in this case?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Re: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.12 not detected but spins

The 7200.11 LBA 0 fix is applicable to the 7200.12 models (according to several data recovery professionals at HDD Guru), but your drive is behaving as if it is BSY. That's not the same as the 7200.11 BSY bug (AFAIK), but there is a second "pending bug" that also produces a BSY symptom.

If you access the terminal report from the drive's serial console (as in the 7200.11 case), you should be able to narrow down the cause. I would suggest that you don't send any commands to the drive, though (except for Ctrl-Z).
