Hi all,
please help me please; I got 3 barracuda 1.5TB ST31500341AS - when I heard about the potential problem this model had like 8 months ago I ran the update seagate tool and it DETECTED 1 of the drive a candidate for the Firmwarew update - the other 2 F/W is CC1H (and they are still working fine)
2 days ago windows 7 told me backup your drive for it is going to die (i forgot the exact sentence); switched off then on - bye bye HDD (which is the actual HDD that has the OS on)
I installed windows 7 on the other drive and tried to connect the HDD - works under BIOS but not under windows - connected with external USB enclosure after 10 sec. I/O error
so what i can say is the drive can be seen from bios (sometimes it disappears though)
now for the drive details: (Check attachment)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1500Gbytes
S/N: XXXXXXX
ST31500341AS
P/N: 9JU138-300
FIRMWARE: SD17
DATE CODE:09196 SITE CODE TK PRODUCT OF THAILAND
I downloaded the F/W update iso and created the CD and restarted the PC (Attachment)then i got the message that it cannot upgrade (Attachment) for now the F/W is : SD1B
I kept the bios on for some time and disconnected all my drives except 1 of my 2TB WDC and the Seagate that is dying - it is shown in BIOS as Attachment - and it stayed there for some time.
How can i backup or copy all of my Data from DOS? (i hope it stays long enough for me to do it)
I already have 2 x 2TB WDC and 2x1.5TB Barracuda drives?
it is REALLY weird that i have a BSY drive whereas it should not have died on me since i had upgraded the F/W to what seagate recommended.
remember i can still upgrade F/W it is working from DOS but it says Mismatch F/W since it is already SD1B
all i need is to copy my Data one way or another and i don't need RMA or anything i will recycle the drive.
Please please help for i can see light at the end of the tunnel since it works for some time.

used Hiren CD 15.1; logged in DOS and used Seagate Discwizard; read the drive when i said clone to my 2 TB WDC; formatted the 2TB to accept the clone but when i clicked next it said bad sector... so i clicked ignore ALL and it stayed copying for 30 minutes until i saw the indicator still did not start - that's when i realized the drive disappeared; restarted to check in BIOS it wasn't there - power off then on for the PSU and BIOS saw the drive again.
any other suggestion would be appreciated.
Roger
