Am I missing something here? I used the Model and Serial checker and it says my drive is affected, I follow the process for step 4 which lets me download a bootable ISO file for the ST31000333AS. When I look in the file, it has only a single DriveDetect.exe file and a README.txt file?
This is not a bootable ISO.
Am I missing something?

You misunderstand. There are no bootable files on the CD rom ISO. I can view the contents of the ISO directly. It has just the executable to check the disk and a readme.txt. I know how to burn an ISO file.
Do not worry, it will work once you burn it to a CD. Even after you burn it, you will still see only those files on the CD, but when you will boot from it it will launch FreeDOS. BTW, after you read the instructions screen, press Escape to enter your choice.

Burned it to CD-R. It still only has two files:
DriveDetect.exe
Readme.txt
The CD is not bootable.

I enter the serial numbers and 2 passwords and it comes up with the headers like it did in the past but with no infomation below.
Thats the way Serial Number checker always worked on one computer here no matter whether I used FFox 3.0.5, IE 7 or Opera.
I just deleted all of the temp internet files and the serial number checker started to work on this box again.

Sorry about my bad english.
I have a problem with ST3500320AS too. After used about 3 weeks, my HDD've gone bricked, I tried firmware update, it succeeded, but my HDD still cannot be used( can't boot up Win, and datas can't be accessed).
When will Seagate release another firmware for ST3500320AS?

So it seems like there are even more firmware revisions than stated.
I posted about the problem with my ST31000340AS even after the firmware update to SD1A (requiring power cycle to access data).
And now there is information regarding a SD1B/SD3B firmware revision that some people were able to obtain by contacting customer service. Isn't that kind of confusing?
Which firmware works?
