Seagate Barracuda [SN: ST3500630A] [Power Supply]

Dear guys,

firstly i will wish you a happy new year. :smileyhappy:

i have a Problem with my i bit old 500 GB hard disk.

I used the hdd as external drive but a power cable of my laptop destroyed the board.

because of this fact i'm searching for a needed or new hard disk, to change the board with following data's:

Seagate Barracuda

SN: ST3500630A

PN: 98.1044-305

Firmware: 3.AAE

My trials to find a other hhd on plattforms like ebay, amazon or external dealers are ended with no results.

i hope somebody could give me some tips to find a solution for my problem. the data's are really important and emotional connected with my life but a recovery for 600€ or so are to much for my bank account.

sorry for my mistkaes, my english isn't very well.

i wish you a nice evening.

Re: Seagate Barracuda [SN: ST3500630A] [Power Supply]

If this is your board ...

... then the most likely culprit is a shorted 12V TVS (transient voltage suppression) diode. That is the large part immediately to the left of the mounting hole nearest the power connector. This diode can be removed with flush cutters. The drive will work OK without it, but it will no longer have overvoltage protection on the affected supply rail. Be absolutely sure your PSU is OK.

If you wish to replace the diode, then you can use an SMBJ12A part from Farnell, Mouser, Digikey.

If there is more damage, and you need to replace the board, let us know. The total cost should not exceed US$50, including a firmware transfer from the old board to the donor.

Good luck.
