Startup Power Requirement for 5v

Hello, I am planning on building a NAS and needed to know the startup power requirements for the Barracuda 3TB drive ST3000DM001. On the data sheet it says it requires 2A for startup, but it doesn't list which part of that is the 5v and which part is the 12v. As most power supplies have far more 12v I need to ensure I have enough 5v amps.

Re: Startup Power Requirement for 5v

Page 12 of the following document states the typical startup current at 12V is 2.0A.

There is also a table of DC power requirements on page 17.

Product Manual, Barracuda Gen 14. 100686584. Rev. C:
http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/docs/manual/desktop/Barracuda%207200.14/100686584c.pdf

The spindle motor gets its power from the 12V rail. The 5V rail supplies the digital logic.

Re: Startup Power Requirement for 5v

Thank you very much, that document looks like it provides the information I need. According to the charge on page 17 it doesn't require any 5v for start-up, which would make sense if the 5v is only for the controller. I have just seen people warn about ensuring you have enough 5v amps when building large NASes as PSUs generally don't provide much 5v and drives use a good amount for start-up.
