Updated st31000340as firmware now RAW

Ok what I had to do update the firmware was use the dos upgrade and disconnect the C: drive other wise It was not recognized. It updated fine but now it still is not seen in windows when connected to the sata ports on the mb the only way I can get it to be seen is connect it though an external drive with USB connecting it to the puter as even esata it not seen.

After the firmware update the drive is seen as RAW using USB :smileysad: it has 900gigs of stuff on it. What happened

Please help

Sorry I can't assist further as I can't give good info, have a look through and something may help, RAW is bad btw, but it's not impossible if the drive is still alive.

When connected via a SATA port, does BIOS detect it? Does it appear in Device Manager? Disk Management?

Re: Updated st31000340as firmware now RAW

Ok I put the drive in a different external case and now (although still not seen with sata of esata) in computer management it states

1TB single (F:smileyhappy:

931.51 GB NTFS

Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)

If I try to open it it says

You Need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it

I clicked Cancel

Then another box popped up stating

F:\is not accessible

Data error (redundancy check).

If I right click on it and click properties it shows

used space 844,918,726,656 bytes 786GB

Free Space 155,283,513,344 bytes 144 GB

Capacity 1,000,202,240,000 bytes

Any thoughts on this

Thanks people for your time

Hello sorry about the delay was away for a bit when connected to sata it is not seen anywhere Bios, Disk manager or Device Manager. The only time it was seen is though a Sata to USB divice. 2 of the External boxes I have are able to output usb or sata and when the USB is conected to the computer it is seen but when sata is conected no go.

You need to format it, if it has a corrupted file system on it it will not open for you.

Re: Updated st31000340as firmware now RAW

True, but you already have unless you use a recovery program to get the data back before wiping, I don't know of any good free ones these days, so you have to choose whether to pay for a program or wipe and lose data, sorry mate it's what back up's was invented for, for a good recovery program to test if it can be recovered look here....http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/

If I can get the data I don't mind paying a bit 100-300 but can't afford to pay thousands that the recovery houses charge

Re: Updated st31000340as firmware now RAW

I find it strange that the file system (such as it is) can be seen via USB but not via SATA. Try installing the 1.5Gbps speed limitation jumper.
